Personal records of Malcolm William Wallace, professor of English in and Principal of University College, consisting of personal and biographical material, drafts and copies of his writings and addresses, and material on the history and functioning of the University of Toronto and University College, from the opening of King’s College in 1843. Included is the University of Toronto Overseas Training Company’s “Record of Service” book, with a number of loose items, that Wallace compiled while second-in-command of the Company during World War I; his study for the Commission on National Development in the Arts, Letters and Sciences (Massey Commission); and the Alexander Lectures for 1950-1951.

Personal records documenting the careers of Alexander Peter Cockburn and his children, Jean Elizabeth Munro, Harriet Macmillan Cockburn, James Roy Cockburn, Cecilia Catherine Cockburn, and Mary Barnfield. The records include diaries, certificates, legal documents, course notes and term papers, lecture notes, notes, medical case books, addresses, publications, blueprints, design drawings, photographs, lantern slides, sketches, trench and other military maps (First World War), press clippings and medals. The most extensive series record the activities of Alexander Peter Cockburn as president of the Muskoka and Nipissing Navigation Company; Harriet Cockburn as a medical doctor, especially relating to her service in Serbia during the First World War; Jean Munro's career as an artist in France; and Roy Cockburn's career as professor of engineering drawing in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, and his military service in the First World War with the Royal Engineers in France and with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force under General Allenby in Palestine.

B1980-0032: Certificate presented to Arthur D'Orr LePan, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, University of Toronto, at a dinner held in his honour in the Great Hall of Hart House on 2 February 1931, with signatures of the attendees and a copy of the menu, all mounted in a mahogany case. The certificate was designed by J. E. H. Macdonald and measures 53 cm x 35 cm. The dimensions of the case are 70 cm. x 49 cm.

This fonds contains Etienne Gilson's correspondence, articles, lectures and pocket diaries for the period 1927-1978. It also contains biographical material, copies of articles in journals, articles by others about Gillson, some reviews of his published works, memorabilia, and the notebooks of Abbe Andre Gilson, younger brother of Etienne. In addition there are photographs and audio cassettes.
This fonds contains works, correspondences, and ephemera belonging to and about Edward Monahan. The fonds has six main categories of materials: drafts and research notes for “Teach me Goodness, Truth and Understanding,” later published as "Teach me Goodness, Truth and Knowledge"; materials regarding the publication of “Collective Autonomy”; personal correspondence; reports from organizations including the Council of Ontario Universities and St. Michaels Collegium; Laurentian University materials; and reading notes and articles on a variety of philosophical topics. Some of the most notable topics covered in the reading notes include: the contemporary Catholic church, natural law, moral theology, Catholic education, higher education, Greek philosophy, and academic tenure.
These materials document Monahan’s career both as a philosopher and academic, as well as a university administrator.

A later accession (B2008-0031, now described as Series 10 within Sous-fonds 2) is an accrual to the Ezra Schabas fonds. It consists of an alphabetical file series that documents most facets of Prof. Ezra Schabas’ career. While there are a few early records, most files document his activities after his retirement from the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, including: involvement in associations and music groups, publishing and research endeavours including his book Sir Ernest MacMillan: The Importance of Being Canadian; evaluation reports of music programs throughout Canada; performances and public appearances; travels; workshops and talks. The files contain a variety of documents including correspondence, minutes, agenda, papers, talks, reviews, evaluation reports, scripts, grant applications and memorabilia. 1953-2007 (predominant 1985-2002)
Collection consists of materials relating to musical life in Toronto, Ontario. The collection includes photographs of various Canadian and European musicians, including various photographs of Canadian Opera Company productions from the late 1980s and early 1990s, autographs from various opera singers and musicians from the late-nineteenth century, three scrapbooks with newspaper clippings and programs, and a collection of songs published in the Toronto Evening Telegram at the end of the nineteenth century.

Cameron, Irving Heward
Fonds consists of records created, accumulated, and used by Doug Riley between the years 1966-2007. The majority of the records in this fonds is sheet music resulting from collaborations with other musicians, arrangements by Doug Riley, or original compositions. Although the fonds consists largely of jazz music, there is a wide variety of genres including classical music represented. Audio recordings could prove useful in the understanding of Doug Riley's performances or musical techniques.
Throughout his career Doug Riley collaborated in a variety of projects including composing music for theatre, television, awards shows, and social events. The fonds includes evidence of these projects including scripts, itineraries, storyboards, etc.
Also included in the fonds is correspondence between Doug Riley and other prominent figures in the music industry. Many set lists included in the fonds could provide insights into the performances of Doug Riley.
Fonds consists of documents relating to the Zola Research Program and the publication of the 10 volume "Émile Zola Correspondance" series, including project files, inventories, reference materials, photocopies of Émile Zola’s correspondence and other documents related to the project. The project files contained in this fonds document the development and activities of the Zola Research Program. Project files records include inventories of various letters, funding information, budgetary forms, donor agreements, publicity documents and summaries of the project written both by external entities (newspapers) and internal figures (members of the Program staff). Also included are supplementary documents that were collected to create a broader contextual framework. Each letter is be supported with annotations and background information on the correspondents, events or people discussed in the letters as well as the social and political state of France during the 19th century. While the collection of letters by Zola was the primary mandate of the project, along the way the Program collected a vast number of reference materials to broaden the perspective. This fonds contains the off-prints, various documents (both collected by Zola and collected by the Zola Research Program about various 19th century figures) and bibliographies. Books collected by the Program are now the basis of the Émile Zola Collection in the Rare Book Collection of Kelly Library.
The correspondence is composed mostly of photocopies of handwritten letters, post cards, cartes de visites, telegrams and typed transcriptions of letters. The correspondence is a mixture of professional and personal letters that discuss various matters from the publication of Zola’s main works to the birth of his children. It is clear from the various handwritings and documentation styles that multiple figures were involved in the processing of the letters. However, as a Research Associate and long-term member of the team, Dorothy Speirs was the primary figure creating, processing and cross-referencing the letters. This can be seen through the presence of her initials on most of the documents. Additionally, as Project Archivist Hélène Issayevitch organized the letters and maintained the record-keeping practices throughout. It is important to note that after the dissolution of the Zola Research Program in 1995, Speirs continued collecting reference materials and adding them to the collection. As a result, there are a number of documents contained within that extend outside the dates of the Program. The result of this continued research is an additional publication completed in 2008, in association with Owen Morgan.
This collection remains the largest repository of Émile Zola’s letters available in North America. In recent years, the descendants of Zola have divided the estate, including the letters, resulting in a dispersal of the documents. This collection represents the largest single collection of Zola’s letters that is accessible and open to the public. Additionally, this fonds contains a fountain of information on key figures in the Naturalist Movement of the 19th century, as well as other well-known artists, scholars, intellectuals and political and social figures, including J.K. Huysmans, Edmond de Goncourt, Gustave Flaubert, Édouard Manet, Alfred Bruneau, Paul Alexis, Henry Céard, Léon Hennique, and Guy de Maupassant - all of which can be found either through personal discussions in the letters or supplementary documentation. The hidden value in this fonds lies in the plethora of reference resources that are available. The fonds also houses a vast number of off-prints that explore various aspects of Zola’s life as well as the broader Naturalist community of the 19th century. Some other significant pieces include original 19th century illustrated theatrical pamphlets from the Théâtre Libre, various original newspaper clippings and original letters by Émile Zola, Alexandrine Zola, Paul Alexis and Jules Claretie.
Fonds is arranged into 6 series:
1) Project Files series: consists of a variety of records that document the development of the project over the years, including funding information, publicity and marketing documents, donor agreements, budgetary forms and some correspondence amongst various scholars.
2) Letters by Zola series: consists of photocopies of letters written by Zola between 1856 and 1902. This series also contains an original letter by Émile Zola, dated June 22, 1890 (File #107).
3) Letters to Zola series: contains photocopies of letters written to Zola between 1858 and 1902. This series also contains an original letter by Alexandrine Zola to Émile Zola, dated May 27, 1890 (File #248).
4) Letters by Contemporaries series: consists of photocopies of letters sent between Zola’s family and contemporaries. This series contains an original letter from Paul Alexis to Léon Hennique, dated September 19, 1887 (File #420).
5) Collected and Reference Material series: contains photocopies of documents about the project and the various correspondents in the fonds (documents written by or about Émile Zola, documents about his family and correspondents, off-prints of works written about Émile Zola and naturalism, project inventories of letters and bibliographies). Series contains a variety of original documents including newspapers and theatrical pamphlets.
6) Alphabetical Index Forms series: consists of biographical and contextual information on correspondents of Émile Zola, figures mentioned in the letters, or the main journals for which he wrote.

Fonds includes minute/program books (1906-1912, 1912-1922, 1922-1936, 1936-1946); cash books (1914-1928,1928-1948); file including texts of skits with parody songs, printed constitutions (1916/1917 and 1920), and typescript history of 1899-1962.
Speranza Musical Club
Fonds contains documents relating to Leslie R. Bell's career as a composer, arranger, choral conductor, educator, and music columnist. Materials include manuscript music (both of arrangements and original compositions); radio scripts and notes relating to his work in broadcasting as a radio commentator for CBC and CFRB, Toronto; publicity documents relating to performances by Leslie Bell and the Leslie Bell Singers; correspondence; documents relating to his work as the co-founder and first executive director of the Canadian Music Educators' Association (CMEA); and, newspaper articles, including those written by Bell and about him).
