The passion of our Lord according to Saint Matthew : set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach : programs

File contains programs for performances of Bach's St. Matthew's Passion at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto. The concerts were prepared under the joint direction of Ernest MacMillan (conductor) and Richard Tatersall. The choirs were made up of members from the choirs of the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, Old St. Andrew's Church, Upper Canada College, Holy Trinity Church, Bloor Street United Church, the Conservatory Choir, and the Mendelssohn Choir. The Music Committee of Hart House and Hart House Theatre were also involved in the productions.

Collection consists of records from early conventions of the Ontario Music Teachers' Association (OMTA), primarily from the first convention, held at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto (October 6-8, 1936). Papers include programs (1936-1944); correspondence; meeting minutes; lists of registrants; scripts for speeches, including an address by Sir Ernest MacMillan at the first convention; drafts of the OMTA constitution; and proceedings (1936, 1937).

Norman Wilks

File consists of two copies of a speech given by Sir Ernest MacMillan at the unveiling of a portrait of Norman Wilks (1885-1944), who taught at the Toronto Conservatory of Music (1928-1944). The file also contains a clipping of the newspaper article "'Met' head to accept Conservatory portrait" regarding the acceptance of the portrait by Edward Johnson on behalf of the Toronto Conservatory of Music.

Faculty reference files

Subseries consists of reference files for various staff and faculty at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. These files were maintained by the promotions office (primarily by Edith Binnie, promotions officer, 1963-1984) and used in the creation of promotional material, including the Faculty's newsletter. Files include memorandums, correspondence, contracts for performances outside of the Faculty, news clippings about activities at the Faculty, and reports on activities and special projects.

File also includes an autographed photograph from Michael Tippett to Morey [1987] and a souvenir album of photographs from the plaque unveiling ceremony held by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada to commemorate Sir Ernest MacMillan (August 18, 1989). Morey attended the unveiling at Massey Hall and is photographed; also photographed were the Brass Quartet of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra; Prof. Thomas H.B.
