Leon Katz Collection

Consists largely of photographs, many of them signed, primarily of artists and writers. Also contains background material Katz collected on the various individuals represented in his Momento Books, including newspaper clippings and related correspondence. It also includes photographs of Henry Moore's work, material from the Arts & Letters Club of Toronto during the 1970s, and misc. professional material (photographs, correspondence, patents, printed matter) from Leon Katz's career as owner and president at Canada X-Ray Ltd. Personal material includes letters from Katz's parents written in the 1930s and a journal kept by Katz from 1958-1961. Additional correspondence includes holiday cards from friends, as well as letters from anonymous collectors solicited by Katz in advertisements in various magazines for a study he hoped to do on the psychology of collecting.

Friedland 1st 2002 accession

Records compiled by Professor Martin Friedland in the researching and writing of his University of Toronto: A history (University of Toronto Press, 2002). Included are correspondence files, files on the structure of the project, research notes and material, drafts of the manuscript, correspondence relating to publication matters, addresses, photographs, audiotapes, books, pamphlets and other publications.

The records document how the project was conceived and carried out, including the evolution of the manuscript and discussions over the shaping of the book. One consequence was putting the footnotes on line, a first for the University of Toronto Press, and also issuing them in a separate hardcopy volume. The records document the major issues at the University and, by extension, in higher education in Ontario over more than 175 years. The research reports, correspondence from academics, university administrators and graduates from across North America, original material forwarded by individuals, and the commentaries by some sixty people who read the whole manuscript, together provide extra breadth and depth to this historical record of the University.

Ham 2019 accession

Family photo album documenting James Ham's childhood into early adulthood including his time working for Ontario Hydro as a student and his time in the Navy during World War II. There is also one family trip diary describing a car trip he took with his wife Mary and their two children to the Northwest Territories in 1971. There are selected slides documenting his trip to the USSR in 1960. There is also a selection of colour slides taken during trips to Asia including an official Uof T trip to China in 1980 as well as a 2nd trip to China and Korea with Mary in 1982. The records predominantly consist of University Health Service Annual Reports, 1949 to 1992, and minutes of the Advisory Committee to the University Health Service, 1941 to 1971. Also included are numerous photographs of staff, predominantly from the 1970s, and a file of newspaper clippings pertaining to the University Health Services. There is also a “visits book”, circa 1945, that lists daily appointments, patients, and diagnoses.

Wrong Family 1980 accession

Photographs of members of the Wrong family including George M., E.Murray, Harold V. and H. Hume, in activities relating to their education at Upper Canada College, the University of Toronto, and to Harold's military training during the First World War. There is also a photo of the Wycliffe College students, 1885-1886.

Wrong Family 2003 accession

This accession consists of Professor Wrong's professional correspondence with fellow historians, and with politicians of the day such as Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Sir Robert Borden, MacKenzie King; and others. Also included are the manuscripts of some of G. M. Wrong's essays and books, concerning Canadian and Commonwealth history. 19th century documents relating to the Nairne family and collected by Wrong during his writing of "A Canadian manor and its seigneurs" were donated to the University Library in 1938 and bear the Library’s stamp.

This accession also contains some records relating to the Armstrong and Wrong families including postcards collected during trips overseas to Europe, England, China and Japan, photographs and family histories by G. M.Wrong ca 1938-1948 and by Dr. Norman Wrong in the 1970’s and donated in 1975. Family correspondence is limited to primarily the photocopied letters of Prof. Wrong to his son, Murray from 1908 to 1924.

Huntsman 1988 accession

Accession of correspondence, minutes, notes, manuscripts and reports on the study of (primarily salmon) fishery management and migration. Also includes files on the Biological Board of Canada, and the Ontario Fisheries Research Committee. Photographs, in chronological order, document the study of fishery management and migration including: fishing locations at the Margaree and Moses Rivers as well as other lakes and falls in the Maritimes; migration of various types of fish including sturgeon, trout and salmon; marine biologists laying salmon traps; construction of Round lake Dam; and several images unidentified.

University of Toronto. Art Service (Faculty of Medicine)

Contains eight drawings mounted on a board illustrating a lobectomy. Based on information on the back of the illustrations, they were prepared by Faculty of Medicine Art Service for the Department of Surgery. They were used first by Dr. Norman Shenstone of the Department of Surgery and the Toronto General Hospital and possibly later by Robert M. Janes, head of the Department of Surgery.
