After I was appointed dean in early 1972, I started to organise an interdisciplinary series of lectures on courts and trials (file 2). This was designed to make a statement that we were not just a professional school but were part of the University. The series was widely advertised and was given every few weeks throughout the academic year 1972-73 (files 3-4). The contributors were from a wide array of disciplines--Reg Allen in philosophy, Don Dewees in economics, Tony Doob in psychology, Jim Giffen in sociology, Charles Hanly in psychoanalysis, Ken McNaught in history, Anatol Rapoport in mathematics, and Peter Russell and Don Smiley in political science (files 5-15). Northrop Frye backed out (file 8), but later contributed to the Crime in Literature series. The series was published by the U of T Press in 1975 (files 17-22) and the book was dedicated to Bora Laskin (file 11).

Ezra Schabas was appointed Chair of the Orchestra Openings/Mobility Committee of this Association in 1990. This committee publicizes vacant positions in symphony orchestras. Files in this subseries contain documents relating to the operation of the Association including minutes, correspondence, reports of the Orchestra Openings Committee, the Executive Committee, records relating to programmes, government relations and Orchestra study for the Canada Council.
Part of Ezra Schabas fonds
Prof. Schabas has been involved with the Ontario Arts Council since the mid 1960's when he was commissioned to write a report on "Ontario Community Orchestras" (1966) which became a blueprint for developing 40 professional and amateur orchestras in Ontario. This series of correspondence, minutes, notes, and reports documents these activities. Included are records on the OAC's Advisory Committee on Touring which resulted in the report "Touring in Ontario" with David Silcox, William Wylie, and Reva Gerstein and led to the formation of the Council's Touring Office; and a copy of "Choral Music in Ontario" with Keith Bissell, which led to the formation of the Ontario Choral Federation, Ontario Youth Choir and annual province-wide 'Choirs in Contact'.

Photographs in this sub-series document Farrar’s extended family in Cattaraugus and New York state from about the 1870s to the early 1900s. There is a large collection of nineteenth century Carte de Visites and Portrait Cards of his parents, T.J. Farrar and Marie Farrar, and their relatives. Some are identified while others are not. Also among these photographs are images of the various Farrar homes in Cattaraugus, views of group outings such as picnics and parties ca. 1890s, as well as general views of Cattaraugus. Also found among these older photographs are three photographs of skeletons or skulls. The photographer of these experimental type images is unknown but is most probably a member of the Farrar family or C.B. Farrar himself. These photographs are grouped and arranged according to subject as outlined above.
This sub-series also includes photographs of Dr. Farrar’s immediate family, mainly his children, Evelyn and Clarice, and his first wife, Evelyn, before 1940. There are also two photographs of Joan Farrar, his second wife. There are numerous professional portraits and extensive snapshots documenting his early life with Evelyn, his various domiciles and the girls’ childhood. Also included in this series are portraits of Farrar from his early childhood up to around the 1950s. Included are portraits by Milne Studio of Toronto, Frederick William Lyonde and Sons of Toronto, and a reproduction of a painting of Dr. Farrar by artist, Archie Barns. Formal portraits are filed by person at the beginning while snapshots are filed afterwards and are grouped by subject and roughly sorted by date.
For Cattaraugus family photographs – See Box /001P.
For family portraits and snapshots – See Box /002P.
For oversize photographs relating to either – See Box /005P (01) and /006P (01)-(05) and /007P (01).
