Series consists of records from John Beckwith's student years; scrapbooks of concerts Beckwith attended and participated in during this time; awards, tributes, and honours that he received later in his career in recognition of his many contributions to Canadian music; and other general biographical material that Beckwith collected throughout his life.

Fonds consists of records created and collected by John Beckwith during his career as a composer, writer, music critic, radio broadcaster, administrator, educator, and performer. Records include sketches, drafts, and manuscripts of his compositions and arrangements, as well as programs, posters, reviews, correspondence, recordings, and other materials from premieres and other performances of his works.

Fonds also includes records relating to Beckwith's work as a radio commentator and script writer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC); music critic for the Toronto Star; professor and dean of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music; and writer of numerous lectures, articles, and books.

B2003-0023 (7 boxes, 1892-1921): This accession documents the short life of Gerald Edward Blake from his birth in 1892, his education at Ridley College and the University of Toronto, to his death on the battlefields of France during World War I in 1916. Series 1 and 3 contain his diaries and correspondence to family members in which he describes his experiences at school, his trips to Britain and France in 1913 and most significantly, his 13 months of service during World War I. The majority of his letters are to his mother during his months overseas, but there are also letters to his sisters, Margaret (1893-1963), Constance (1896-1979) and his brother, Verschoyle (1899-1971). Some of these letters are attached to typescript copies, prepared by his brother Verschoyle prior to 1971. Capt. Blake also sent postcards annotated by him which provide a photographic record of British army life in camp, as well as official coloured war service postcards of the British army in action. Other postcards of street scenes in France and Britain helped to illustrate the places he had been including the town of Pozières near which he was killed in 1916 (Series 5). Other war records include his military orders and notes while at the front, and his copy of active service bible. Correspondence and photographs also document his close friendship with his cousins Hume Wrong (1894 – 1954; BA 1915) and Harold Wrong (b.1891; BA 1913), who was also killed in action in July 1916. After Gerald’s death, Hume Wrong assisted Mrs. Blake in making arrangements for her son’s grave site in France and sent home photographs of the cemetery which he visited in 1920-1921 (Series 5). In addition, Mrs. Blake received other remembrances of her son’s service such as a commemorative medal from the British Army, a copy of the history of his battalion’s service in the War and a copy of Volume II of the British Roll of Honour (Series 4).

This collection contains a variety of materials relating to the development, dissemination, use, and study of Blissymbols by Blissymbolics Communication Institute - Canada, and by affiliate organizations, scholars, educators, and users of augmentative communication around the world. The collection additionally includes administrative records, promotional material, and memorabilia of the BCIC.

This series consists of teaching, sample and personal communication tools and displays for users of Blissymbolics. This includes Blissymbol boards, books, and other augmentative communication devices.

This subseries consists of sample Blissymbol communication displays, including boards, books, posters and electronic communication devices used for instructor reference, student teaching, student evaluation, and individual use.

The collection consists of manuscript drafts and proofs of her novels and novellas, as well manuscripts of unpublished work and some non-fiction. It also includes correspondence (editorial as well as fan mail), and marketing and publicity material.

Collection consists of late-eighteenth, nineteenth, and early-twentieth century flutes, predominantly made by various builders and companies in London, England, as well as two from Paris, one from France, and one from Bayreuth, Germany. The collection covers the mechanization and modernization of the flute, including the addition of holes and keys, and the move from wood to metal for the body of the flute.

Consists of 6 accessions which include correspondence, notes, notebooks, sketchbooks, sketches, designs for stage sets, costume designs, photoprints and photonegatives, scrapbooks documenting the artistic lives of Frederick Coates and his wife, Louise Brown. The photographs include images of Frederick's family, his military service in World War I, dance, and his work in the reconstruction of the faces of maimed soldiers, his studio and their house, and models of buildings. Also includes Guest Book for "Sherwood House", with invitations to dramatic productions held therein; three letters between members of the Hoitt family (1867, 1885). Also included are water colours of costume designs, 5 Art Deco works of art, consisting of Coates' three stage sets for 'Danse Fronds' (ca. 1929), 'Fashions' (ca. 1928), and 'The Storm Centre' (1927); a theatre design featuring a clown; and a still life entitled 'The Blue Plate' (1922). Artifacts include medals, printing blocks, pottery, 20 modelling tools and a sculpture documenting their careers and artistic work.

Items documenting George Westman's athletic achievements in rugby football and hockey while an undergraduate at the University of Toronto, including playing on the winning Grey Cup (1920) and Allan Cup (1921) teams. The items include his T-holder sweater (1922); the football (with lacing) used in the Grey Cup game, 4 December 1920; the commemorative 'puck' presented to the participants in the Allan Cup game and the menu for the victory luncheon in the Fort Garry Hotel, Winnipeg, 22 March 1921; and the U of T Athletic Association's 'colour' (T-holder) certificate awarded to Westman, n.d.

Records of the Walter Frisby Fellowship, formerly known as the Public Speaking Association and now changed name to Dr. Zoltan Mester Fellowship. Include correspondence, minutes of meetings, notices, financial statements, reminiscences and a gavel.

Photographs and cloth letters document the Medical Athletic Association. Included are 5 letters and the composite photographs for the Medical Athletic Executive for the years 1943-44, 1944-45 and 1945-46. Also included is one group shot of the University of Toronto Athletic Association, Intramural Sports Committee for 1945-46.

Correspondence, clippings and memorabilia relating to the social activities of Rous while in 4th year general course in Arts at Trinity College.

Accession consists of monographs, booklets, pamphlets and photographs about Kabayama’s family and work with the Earth Spirit Festival.

Accrual consists of photographs and negatives collected and taken by the donor’s parents, Aiko and David Murakami. Photographs are primarily from Aiko (nee. Kondo) Murakami and her family in Victoria, B.C. The photographic negatives are primarily taken by David Murakami. They include scenes of the Steveston fishing industry, and those who worked in it. The negatives also include images from the Japanese Canadian internment camps in Kaslo and New Denver, where the family was living. There are also some family photographs and accompanying negatives of the Murakami’s and their friends in Toronto, O.N.

The material is mix of textual materials encompassing many details of the Uyeno family’s life from mostly 1939 to 1947. Many early records where created from the daily business of Tashichi George Uyeno’s business, Richmond Trading Company. The records are intermixed with letters from Mary Uyeno, who aided the business from Japan. Her letters include business information but also more personal discussions about family matters. They offer a glimpse into the life of many Japanese Canadians who grew up in both countries, identifying as both Canadian and Japanese.

Records also include correspondence with the Office of the Custodian, as the Uyeno’s assets were seized and sold. There is also official notices from the Office of the Custodian notifying the family to move further east and eventually to Ontario. Letters from the later part of the 40s are in regards to the Bird Commission and the sale of larger assets, such as the family’s property in North Vancouver.

Records created and collected by Tashichi Uyeno, primarily from 1939 to the early 1950s. They were kept in two-hole clip boards, and somewhat organized based on his business needs at Richmond Trading Company. The records are telegrams, handwritten letters, ledgers, and typed communication. They cover his proceedings with banks, as since he was importing and exporting goods, he had to balance multiple currencies. He also aided his father’s oar company, and some of the ledgers track his sales and costs. Letters form his sister in Japan are interspersed and offer a look into his personal life.

There is a shift in the records as WWII continues and Japanese Canadians are sent to internment camps. His records also cover this period, though they shift from Richmond Trading Company, to Uyeno’s writing to the Office of the Custodian, arguing for the proper evaluation of his personal belongings and forced sale of his assets. His letter to his sister continue and chart the family’s needs in Japan as well.

This series contains a variety of materials related to the international community of Blissymbolics. It includes material from BCIC affiliates and partners, research, teaching materials, and workshops on Blissymbolics, as well as Bliss user communication displays and textual creations. This series also contains children's books written in Blissymbols, some with translations in a variety of languages. The majority of this series consists of non-English material.

The Artifacts Collection consists of artifacts related to Victoria University and the Vic community. Categories of artifacts are: athletics, pins and medals, awards, jewelry, clothing, buildings, and miscellaneous items.

B2013-0020: 1910-1918: Documents, photographs and artifacts document three generations of the Peterkin - Williamson family. Most of the items relate to Marie Peterkin (B.A. 1919) including a photo album with family photos, photos of fellow students, house parties in Bala and the Toronto Island, convocation,, fellow female workers on break at the munitions factory during World War I. There are also a few items for Ruby Peterkin, aunt to Marie Peterkin, who served in Salinika as nurse in the No. 4 Canadian General Hospital. There are a few photos including two from Salonika as well as an engraved letter opener from her time overseas. Marie Peterkin married John Williamson (B.A. 1910) and their daughter is the donor of this accession Mary Williamson (B.A. 1955). This accession includes the graduating portrait for each as well as two UT letters earned by Mary.

B2014-0013: Photo album originally belonged to John D. Williamson (B.A. 1910) and documents various members and activities of the Williamson family members. Photos show campus views of grounds and students ca. 1906 – 1917 as well as a trip to western Canada 1912, and to Temagami 1916 and 1917. There are also two portraits of J.Peter Williamson, son of John D. Williamson.

B2017-0015: Includes 60th Anniversary Distinguished Graduate Award medal, won by Mary Williamson, alumnus of the Faculty of Library and Information Science. Includes accompanying photograph and letter. One photograph of Marie Peterkin (Williamson) taken ca. 1950 with former U.C. classamate Vida Peene (U.C. 1919). Finally there are a series of photographer proof portraits of J.Peter Williamson in military uniform, 1951.

B2019-0026: Consists of Two binders of collected documents on Marie Peterkin (B.A. 1919) and John Williamson (B.A. 1910) including memoriabilia, legal documents, photographs, diaires, correspondence and some family histories. This accession also has a photo album documenting the couple's trips to Bermuda and Florida in the 1950s and 1960s. There are two oversized certificates for John Williamson.

One University of Toronto pin and two Pi Beta Phi pin as well as a photo album documenting University College graduate, Marie Peterkin (B.A. 1919). Snapshots in album show Ms Peterkin with classmates on campus, at a convention and working at the Government Experimental Farm in Vineland Ontario.
