Peace Prayer Vigil - January 14-15, 1991

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's participation in a peace prayer vigil in Washington, D.C. to pray for a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Gulf. Includes a letter from Nouwen to the members of Daybreak discussing the event and his attendance at it, copies of cards from members of the Daybreak Seniors' Club for Nouwen to take with him, airline tickets, and articles on the event from the Washington Post. Also includes sermons and testimonials calling for peace in the Gulf by Richard Barnet, Jim Wallis, Archbishop John R. Roach, Joseph Cardinal Bernadin, and articles and editorials in the Washington Post, The New Yorker, and Sojourners about the Gulf War.

Includes annotations on the sermons in both Nouwen and Kathy Bruner's hand. Also includes booklet to the members of Daybreak on how the weekend will be arranged.

Visit to the Scarritt-Bennett Center - February 7-9, 1991

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen speaking at the Scarritt-Bennett Center, Nashville, Tennessee. Notes in Nouwen's hand indicate that the topic of the talk may have been "Deepening of Prayer Life." Includes a letter from Mary Avram stating that she sent Nouwen two audio tapes of his talk. Also includes a letter from John Mogabgab hoping to see Nouwen in February. Mogabgab had a key role in organizing this event.

Clergy Conference, Diocese of Ontario - February 17 - 19, 1991

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's leadership at the Clergy Conference for the Anglican Diocese of Ontario at Glen House Resort, Gananoque, Ontario. The theme of the conference was "Communion to Community: Communion and an Invitation to Ministry." Includes notes of a meeting planning for the conference, an agenda for the conference, and notes from the discussion with Nouwen on "Where do we go from here?" written by Jeff Boerger sent in a letter from David Robson. Also includes correspondence with Nouwen, regarding arrangements for the conference and thank-you letters. Includes correspondence with Allan Read, Bishop of Ontario. A copy of Nouwen response is included with most letters.

File consists of correspondence regarding a visit from Conrad Fischer to L'Arche Daybreak. Includes the letter from Fischer requesting to visit, Nouwen's response, and a memo from Nouwen to Sue Mosteller and Joe Vorstermans regarding the visit.

File consists of a letter from Rev. William J. Hockin, regarding Nouwen being the Liturgist on March 20th as part of the Lenten Noonday Series at St. Paul's Church, Toronto, Ontario. The theme of the series was "Finding the Peace."

Visit by Barb Martens and Bonnie Kinnuen - March 22 - 28, 1991 [textual

File consists of correspondence, with Barb Martens and Bonny Kinnuen, regarding a visit to L'Arche Daybreak. Barb and Bonny were both students at the Wertburg Theological Seminary. Includes letters from both Barb and Bonny expressing their desire to visit Daybreak and a copy of Nouwen's response offering them an opportunity to spend time in the community. Also includes a thank you note from Bonny.

Visit of Fr. Marc Roseeuw and Greet Cassier, Belgium TV - June 14 - 20, 1991

File consists of correspondence and other material from Fr. Marc Roseeuw, regarding a visit to Daybreak, with his cousin Greet Cassier, to finish a film for Belgium TV. They wanted to get some footage of the liturgy and life in the house. The majority of the materials are in Dutch. Includes a memo from Nouwen to Daybreak discussing the event.

Theatre and Company - March 14, 1992

File consists of correspondence and other material from Stuart Scardon-Watties, regarding Nouwen's attendance at the play "The Shunning" performed by Theatre and Company in Kitchener, Ontario. Includes Connie Ellis' response that Nouwen would attend on March 14th and bring three members of L'Arche Daybreak. Includes an information sheet on the play and the theatre company.

Centre for Social Concerns - March 19 - 22, 1992

File consists of correspondence, mainly with Joe Vorstermans, and other material regarding Nouwen speaking at the L'Arche and Emmaus communities weekend, Centre for Social Concerns, University of Notre Dame. Nouwen spoke on "God's Love Experienced in Community." Includes extensive handwritten notes by Nouwen. Also includes information sheets and flyers from the event, and a brochure for the Centre for Social Concerns.

Visit of Jack and Susan Stroh - March 28, 1992

File consists of a memorandum from Nouwen's secretary, stating that Jack and Sue Stroh called and requested to meet with Nouwen for an hour on a weekend. In a letter to the Strohs, thanking them for a donation, Nouwen indicates the day will be March 28th.

T.V. Mass (CFTO) - April 3, 1992

File consists of correspondence, from Rev. Brad Massman, and other material regarding Nouwen's participation as homilist for "Mass for a Television Community", a CFTO televised mass, with the theme 'Feast of Corpus Christie.' Nouwen gave a homily for approximately 7 minutes. Includes a script for the program, directions to the studio, and a note about the event from Nouwen's secretary.

Catholic Worker (Hamilton) - April 10, 1992

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's talk at The Catholic Worker storefront in Hamilton, Ontario. The theme of Nouwen's talk was "A Time for Mourning - A Time for Dancing - Reflections for Holy Week and Easter." Also includes The Catholic Worker newsletter for Fall 1991.

Also includes an unrelated letter from Clyde Johnson regarding Ichthys House and Taize.

Contains reference material including "Judith Hollister and Her Wonderful Obsession" by Robert Wallace, "Emmaus/Harlem Christmas 1992," and "The Way of Suffering: A Reasoning of the Heart" by Jerome A. Miller. Includes pamphlets, audio tape request forms, and information on Dr. Jay Harris. Also contains a draft letter from Nouwen to Werner Linz about coming to Wainwright House and the construction of the new spiritual centre at Daybreak.

File consists of correspondence, with Rev. Barbara Sykes, and other material regarding Nouwen's participation as speaker at St. Paul's Church, Toronto, Ontario. Nouwen spoke on "Healing Our Relationship's with Others" as part of the church's series "A Time to Heal: Reflections on the Healing Ministry." Includes a suggested format for the healing service, a copy of the healing service from the week before Nouwen's, a flyer, a bulletin, music and lyrics for Amazing Grace and the "Third Sunday of Lent, Year A" from the "Book of Alternative Services." Also includes Nouwen's handwritten notes for the service.

St. Mary Immaculate - March 22 - 24, 1993

File consists of material regarding Nouwen's leadership in a series of services at St. Mary's Immaculate. Includes a fax and a copy of the fax containing a detailed schedule for each of the three evenings of the event. Also includes a program for each evening annotated with notes in Nouwen's hand.

File consists of two letters from Glenn Douglass. In letter from September 20, 1982, Douglass thanks Nouwen for his gift of appreciation (a copy of Yushi Nomura's book). File includes a copy of a typed letter from Nouwen from August 13, 1982, from the Abbey of the Genesee, expressing appreciation for Douglass' help during Nouwen's 25th anniversary of ordination celebration (Douglass drove people to and from the airport). Nouwen said he would send Douglass a gift.
