Fonds consists of textual material and photographs relating to the Hicks family. Some material relates to the university career of RKH and includes research notes, articles, translations, book reviews, and poetry in the field of French literature. The majority of the material includes draft copies of RKH’s memoirs as well as diaries that he kept in the years leading up to his retirement in 1953 until his death in 1964. Some of the material relates to RKH’s personal life, including family correspondence, Christmas poems, and records pertaining to the life and amateur pursuits of Marjorie Ogilvy Edgar Hicks, including a scrapbook and two drafts of various chapters of an incomplete historical novel. Some material relates to the education and career of RKH’s son, John Edgar Hicks, including family correspondence and financial documents.

Fonds contains records of Derwyn Owen’s career as a scholar, including subject notes, lecture notes, thesis materials, manuscripts, reading lists, and class lists from Owen’s time as a fellow and lecturer at Trinity College as well as correspondence and reviews relating to his published works. Files also include personal correspondence, primarily with Anne Armour (later Mrs Owen), diaries, passports, and personal and professional certificates. Also included are pamphlets, programmes, letters, official papers, newspaper clippings, speeches, and other documents from his tenure as Provost of Trinity College (1957-1971).
Derwyn Randolph Grier Owen
The collection consists of several diaries written during trips to the United States and England during the 1850s and 1860s in search of building funds for Trinity College. From his three trips to the United States in 1852 and 1853 there are five notebooks as well as a letter concerning a resolution towards the endowment of Trinity College. There are 98 Cartes de Visite as well as an extensive diary from his 1864 trip to England.
Fonds consists of records kept by W.B. Crowe while a student at the Trinity Medical College (1892-1896) and for several years after graduation. Files include lecture notes and examination papers; printed ‘admission cards’ allowing entrance to lectures; receipts from the Registrar; certificates from the various levels of his training; programs from Medical College social functions including the annual dinners (1892-1895); speeches; commencement programs; notebooks; and papers relating to his time in Scotland. Also included is a prescription book with initial date of March 1894 that seems to have been used throughout his career as a physician. Photographs include a tintype of W.B Crowe treating a patient, a photograph of the dissecting class, and a class photograph. Also included is a clipping from the Toronto Globe and Mail showing the graduating class composite picture for 1895-6.

This collection consists of administrative records, calendars, student academic records, and records of student life at Trinity Medical College. Administrative records include Minutes of Corporation, records related to the amalgamation of medical faculties at Trinity College and the University of Toronto, correspondence files, a small number of general administrative and financial records, a Register of Students, and miscellaneous reports. Student records include textual and photographic records of academic standing and participation; records of student life include documents and photographs related to college groups, committees, societies, and teams. Also in the collection are a cap, belt, (and blazer purported to be from Trinity Medical College), as well as a manual press of the seal of Trinity Medical College.
Trinity Medical College
The collection consists of material related to Young’s academic interest in the Anglican Church in Canada and its related people, records related to Young’s time as an administrator of Trinity College, and some material from his personal life. The fonds contains original and copied research material accumulated by Young from various sources, written by John Strachan, his family and contemporaries. Other research interests included Bishop Mountain, the Stewart family, and Trinity College. Published and unpublished manuscripts, Young’s correspondence relating to the administration of Trinity College, and personal artefacts and photographs, are included.

The Peter H. Russell fonds is comprised of three accessions: B2005-0001, B2017-0006, and B2019-0008. The records span over 60 years and document Prof. Russell’s academic career primarily with the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto and as a recognized expert in the field of judicial, constitutional, and aboriginal politics.
Arranged in fourteen series, the records consist of correspondence, both personal and professional, manuscripts of published and unpublished works, addresses, talks and reviews, teaching and research materials. In particular, these records document the development of his expertise through the preparation of manuscripts, research, teaching and communication with colleagues at universities in Canada and internationally. Material also reflects Prof. Russell’s advocacy and active engagement in a number of national issues.
Correspondents in accession B2005-0001 include members of the Canadian judiciary such as Justices D. C. McDonald, Bora Laskin, Bertha Wilson, and Alan Linden, and politicians such as Bob Rae, Ian Scott, Ed Broadbent and Stephane Dion.
Both Series 6 (Professional activities and addresses) and Series 11 (Articles, reviews, published addresses and referee comments), contains samples of talks and addresses delivered to prominent bodies such as the Toronto Club, the Canadian Club (Toronto and Winnipeg), to university audiences and local community groups such as Learning Unlimited.
His public service activities with aboriginal groups, such as the Dene Nation, and with related governmental bodies, such as the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples and the Ipperwash Inquiry, are documented in Series 5 (Consultation and public service). In addition to his academic activities, material from accession B2005-0001 in this series includes records relating to his community involvement with the Wychwood Rate Payer’s Association, the Bathurst-St. Clair Task Force, Legal Aid Committee, Ontario Liberal Association and University Settlement, among others.
Finally, material in this fonds provides significant coverage of Prof. Russell’s participation in associations and organizations such as the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy (Series 7) University of Toronto Faculty Association (Series 8), the College and Retiree Association of Canada (Sub-series 10.1) and the Retired Academics and Librarians of the University of Toronto (Sub-series 10.2).

This fonds contains records related to the professional activities and personal life of Dr. Ernest Mastromatteo, occupational physician. The bulk of the material in this fonds documents his roles as a medical practitioner, researcher, and occupational health director. The series documenting the activities of the Nickel Producers’ Environmental Research Association, an association Dr. Mastromatteo was heavily involved in during the 1980s, is the largest, with smaller series documenting his career at Inco, his work with the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists, and his many projects, case studies, organizations, associations and societies, as well as legal cases he provided testimony in. There is also a relatively large amount of material documenting his research in the form of addresses, and additional material chronicling his time as a student at both the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and the School of Hygiene.

Fonds consists of records documenting the professional and personal life of Prof. Hassanpour, Kurdish-Iranian Marxist scholar and Professor at UofT’s Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. Material reflects key areas of Prof. Hassanpour’s research, most significantly Kurdish history and culture; the history of political movements, grassroots organization, and class struggle in Iran, Iraq and Turkey; and communication theory and sociolinguistics. Material includes correspondence with colleagues and scholars internationally, documentation of research with particular focus on Prof. Hassanpour’s dissertation and his Peasant Movement Project, records relating to conference presentations, interviews, and teaching, as well as his publishing activity.
Prof. Hassanpour was deeply invested in the preservation of Kurdish oral, visual, and textual documentary heritage as a response to the historical state suppression of cultural-political struggle of Kurdish people. Reflected in records throughout the fonds is Prof. Hassanpour’s work in pursuing the establishment of Kurdish Studies as a discipline, his work editing journals related to Kurdistan, and his effort in exposing and circulating books on Kurdish Studies to libraries and research institutions internationally. Prof. Hassanpour also actively collected and preserved Kurdish texts, dailies, and visual materials. This material is included in Series 9 (Reference material) and through bibliographic and audio material held in other repositories at the University of Toronto Libraries (please see the related material note below).

The material reflects the broad and diverse interests of Dr. Hacking in his work, as well as his exchange with scholars in diverse fields. Records include correspondence, manuscripts and drafts of written works, reprints, lecture notes, and extensive subject files. Additionally, correspondence, press clippings, and photographs chronicle Dr. Hacking’s professional and academic achievements.
Fonds also documents aspects of Dr. Hacking’s personal and family life. This finding aid has been compiled from inventories of the four accessions prepared by Harold Averill and Garron Wells. The fonds describes the personal records of Dr. Ernest McCulloch documenting his career as professor of medicine and administrator at the University of Toronto, and as medical researcher and author of over 200 articles mainly relating to his work on leukaemia and other blood related disorders. Arranged in 17 series, this fonds contains professional and personal correspondence, files relating to administrative activities at the University of Toronto and the Ontario Cancer Institute/Princess Margaret Hospital, subject files on external activities with various professional and academic organizations, editorial boards, etc., teaching materials including lecture notes and extensive research materials documenting experiments relating to cell growth in mice conducted during the 1960's . Also included are graphic materials documenting activities such as meetings and awards as well as illustrations for presentations and publications.

The first is the personal papers of his wife, Ruth Margaret Church Spencer, who served with the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) during World War II as a base librarian and afterwards as the first professional librarian at Canada House in London. The second consists of files compiled by Ralph Flenley, a specialist in German history and sometime chair of the Department of History: examination questions, student mark books, and drafts of an unpublished manuscript on Anglo-German relations.

This fonds consists of one accession containing the personal records of Margaret Allemang, Muriel Ward, Jean Wilson, Patricia S.B. Stanojevic, Catherine McNaughton, Ethel Irwin, Mary Potts, Muriel Uprichard and Delta and Irene Mick. These records were donated to the Margaret M. Allemang Centre for the History of Nursing Archives by the women themselves or their family members. The records cover a variety of topics relating to the history of nursing such as their own involvement as staff members in the School of Nursing at the University of Toronto, the development of nursing curricula, nurses involvement in World War II, and the study of cardiac patients.
