[Handloom industry]

File contains four letters related to the handloom industry and a new government scheme to establish 1,000 Handloom Textile Centres across the country, and two local weavers unions expressing interest to establish new handloom centres in the North.

File contains correspondence regarding the 1964 cyclone, relief efforts, cyclone damage to the fishing industry, etc. Includes letters, typewritten notes, resolutions, and memorandums, primarily written by S. J. V. Chelvanayakam to various government authorities.

[Memorandums on the National System of Education]

File contains two memorandums regarding the new education bill and the proposed unified system of education, The White Paper, and the reports and submissions related to it. Includes a 10-page memorandum prepared by the All Ceylon Union of Tamil Teachers and a 7-page memorandum on the educational needs of the Northern and Eastern provinces prepared by V. Navaratnam. Also includes a letter from V. Navaratnam and a typed document regarding quota for the universities. 

[Estate schools and estate teachers]

File contains records regarding Tamil estate schools and Tamil estate school teachers. Includes letters, copy resolutions, registered postal receipts related to Tamil teachers' appointments in the estates and various letters Chelvanayakam received after a public call through Suthanthiran asking people who have passed GCE Ordinary Level Examinations and who are interested in teaching to apply with a letter.
