Edward Shorter fonds

This accession was acquired by UTARMS in October 1991 from Prof. Edward L. Shorter. Arranged in four series, the accession consists primarily of correspondence bracketing the years 1966-1988. Series 1 is made up of three files devoted to Shorter's curriculum vitae, University of Toronto appointments and research grants and proposals. Series 2, the major portion of the accession, consists of professional and private correspondence. Series 3 is comprised of a single annotated book edited by Shorter. Series 4 is five strips of photo negatives of Edward L. Shorter dating from about the mid-1970's.

The UTSC Photographic Services fonds covers the years of approximately 1964 and 1966 to 2008. The collection represents an invaluable visual history of the University of Toronto Scarborough campus and is made up almost entirely of photographic materials – negatives, contact sheets, slides, and prints.

Photographs in the collection from the 1970s to 1994 are attributed to David Harford and photographs from 1994 onward are attributed to Ken Jones. Photographs cover a broad range of subjects, such as the buildings and grounds of UTSC, campus events, faculty, staff, students, and much more.

B2018-0005 contains a file of mimeographed and annotated copies of two one-act plays by Gilbert Norwood: "Brightening the Classics: a college farce in one act" and and "Pandora's Box", written in 1932 and 1933 and produced in the theatre space at the University College Women's Union in 1934, with a covering letter from Ruth Davidson, wife of Edward ("Ted") Moss Davidson (BA, UC 1934) who acted in both plays.

B1979-0051: Records documenting Dr. Siminovitch's career in the Faculty of Medicine and the broader field of genetics and public health. Included are records of the Department of Medical Genetics, the Sub-Committee on Science Policy of the Long Range Planning Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, and provincial bodies such as the Ontario Council of Health, Task Force on Genetics, the Ontario Cancer Institute, the Ontario Task Force on Health Research Requirements, the Mount Sinai Institute and many more. B2019-0010: Personal records of Dr. Louis (Lou) Siminovitch documenting the latter part of his career as a molecular biologist and Head of the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital. The collection consists of research materials for Schneid's unpublished book on 20th century Jewish artists in Europe, manuscripts for his published and unpublished works, and galleys for his published writings. Most of these artists perished during the Second World War.

This fonds contains the personal and professional papers documenting the life and accomplishments of physicist John Satterly. Included is personal and professional correspondence, family documents, material related to Devon, England and its history; photoprints; course notes and related material such as certificates and diplomas from Satterly's days as a student; lecture notes; laboratory experiments; problem sets, examinations; textbooks; research notes; and publications which document his career as physicist at the University of Toronto.

Few administrative records of the Department of Physics from the first half of the twentieth century are available in the University Archives. As a result, this fonds provides documentation not only the life of the renowned physicist, but also of the teaching of Physics at the University of Toronto from 1912 to 1950 as well. The personal papers of other physicists already in the Archives compliment the Satterly fonds.

Fonds consists of the personal records of Alan Rodney Bobiwash, documenting his career as a university instructor, aboriginal and anti-racist activist, consultant, and representative for global Indigenous rights. Series 1, the most extensive series, consists of an A-Z subject files that document Bobiwash’s aboriginal and anti-racist activism, and provides the best overview of professional activities during the 1980s and 1990s. Series 5 is a chronological collection of records related to the conferences and seminars Bobiwash attend in various professional capacities from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. The fonds also contains personal correspondence and records that document Bobiwash’s education, personal relationships, and activities, as well as Curriculum Vitae and obituaries. Included in the personal records are notebooks, journals and prayer books which document Bobiwash’s day-to-day personal life, his travels, spirituality, and the progression of his professional career from a private point of view. Other series document Bobiwash’s personal and professional writing, and the Metis bibliography he created. Finally, series 10 contains both personal and professional photographs, the majority of which are related to Bobiwash’s professional activities in the 1990s, and early 2000s.

The Halyna Stadnyk Papers focuses on the activities of several members of the United Hetman Organization [Soiauz hetmantasiv derzahavnykiv]. Halyna Stadnyk is the main recipient of the letters in this collection. Her principal correspondents are Natalia Doroshenko and IaElysaveta Skoropads?ka-Kuzahim. Nataliaa Doroshenko (1888-1970) was a stage actress and a prominent figure in the theater world. She was the wife of renowned Ukrainian historian Dmytro Doroshenko. She lived in Canada from 1947 and in Munich from the 1950s. IaElysaveta Skoropads?ka-Kuzahim (1899-1976) was a civic leader and sculptor. Her father, Pavlo Skoropadsky-, served as hetman of the Ukrainian State in 1918. Forced to abdicate in November, the Skoropadsky- family fled to Berlin. There she helped with her father's political activities, while also resuming her study of sculpture. She was also actively engaged in organizing humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians in need following the 1932-1933 famine and during the Second World War. After the death of her father in 1945 and upon the death her sister in 1959, she assumed the leadership of the hetmanite movement. The collection consists of correspondence between Sytnyk and his mother in Ukraine, whom he found in the last years of his life; other relatives in Ukraine; and his wife Hanna Cherin. The letters from Volodymyr Vynnychenko, a writer and political leader, forms the large part of the correspondence. The collection also includes some of Sytnyk's personal documents. The collection also contains many photographs of Sytnyk. They were taken when he was living in Lviv, Kyiv, Germany, and the United States. He was photographed with famous Ukrainian literary figures, such as, for example, IaUri- Kosach and IaUri- Klen (pseud. of Oswald Burghardt). The collection also contains Sytnyk's publications. These include two of his manuscripts, and a number of clippings of his poetry published in different periodicals. The collection also includes many articles about Sytnyk. In addition, the collection consists of material collected by John Luczkiw for a collection of Sytnyks poetry entitled TaSvit paporoti (Flower of the Fern). Luczkiw compiled the bibliography of Sytnyks works that was incorporated into the publication. The collection is organized into six series: biographical records, correspondence, publications, photographs, bibliographical materials, and miscellaneous.
