      Allan Irving received various fellowships, honours and awards: Ontario Government Fellowship from the Ministry of Correctional Services for M.S.W study at Carleton University, 1970-1972 ; National Health and Welfare Fellowship from the Canadian Government for doctoral studies, 1977-1980 ; FSW’s Teacher of the Year Award in 1989-1990, 1992-1993, 1993-1994, 1994-1995 and in 1996-1997 ; FSW’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 1991-1992 ; nominated by the FSW for an Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Association (OCUFA) teaching award in 1993-1994 ; awarded the FSW’s “Teacher who Most Represents Social Work Values” in 1997-1998 ; elected to membership in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, March 2000.

      Allan Irving also participated into the activities of various organizations. Canadian Review of Social Policy: member of the editorial board and reviewer of articles since 1985 ; book reviewer editor from 1985 to 1991 ; and guest editor for a special issue on the history of social work in Canada published in 1995.
