Notice biographique

Dr. James Brown MacDougall was born near Stirling, Scotland, in 1871, and came with his parents at the age of two to settle in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, near Almonte, Ont. He graduated with honours in Classics and English in 1896 from Queen's University, and in 1897 became principal of the North Bay Model School. MacDougall made a major contribution to the advancement of schools in Ontario. He was the first resident inspector of schools in the north in 1904, at a time when when high schools in the far north were practically unknown. He retired in 1942 after more than forty-eight years as a teacher, principal, inspector and official of the Department of Education. He died in 1950.
