Scope and content

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given by Jean Vanier at an Assistants' Retreat in Erie, PA, in August 1984.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I want to share with you about another meeting with Jesus, which tells us much about him. It's the meeting of those two disciples walking to Emmaus after the resurrection. Maybe when we arrived at this retreat we had in our hearts the sentiments which must have been in the hearts of these two disciples. They had put so much hope in Jesus, that he would liberate Israel. Many people in our world are disillusioned. Their expectations have collapsed. We too can feel cheated by community because it wasn't what we expected.
