History
Florence King was born Florence Ying LEW (her Chinese name unknown). She was Beatrice Jai’s second elder sister and was often called Flo by family and friends. Flo and Beatrice moved to Toronto together in around 1950 in the hopes that the bigger city would offer more opportunities while having less racial discrimination than BC. Around 1952, Flo married Peter Lee King (1925-2009). The couple opened a retail business with Flo’s brother Art (Arthur LEW, 1926-2019), who was very talented in the arts. Together, they established a successful business, CHINA TEMPLE, in the heart of trendy Yorkville and in tony Royal York. She was a founding member of the Mon Sheong Foundation and assisted in several fund raising projects to build their first Home on D'Arcy St. in Toronto.
Flo passed away peacefully in Mississauga on Wednesday September 30, 2020, at the age of 95 years.
