File consists of a bound volume of handwritten and typed annotated lecture notes by Nouwen as well as photocopies of John Mogabgab's handwritten lecture notes. These notes are for a year-long seminar, Hesychasm, co-lectured by Nouwen and Mogabgab during the 1979 - 1980 academic year. In addition, there are typed handouts and photocopies including:
-excerpts from John Calvin's "Institution of the Christian Religion..." titled "Words about Prayer"
-"What's it all About?" a reflection by Matthew Kelty a monk from Papua New Guinea.
-hymns from Saint Symeon's "Hyms of Divine Love"
-Father Basil, abbot of Stavronkita's "Dying and Behold we Live" (from Sobornost, series 7, issue 1, 1975, 22-32).
-"The Theology of Hesychasm" (unknown author)
-Nicephorus the Solitary's "A most profitable discourse on sobriety and the guarding of the heart".
