Note
Ministry and Spirituality (course code REL 433b) was taught by Nouwen during the spring semester of 1977. The class was held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. This course was based around the primary theme of memory and through his lectures, Nouwen hoped to discuss the relationship between ministry and spirituality on the basis of a theology of memory. The course also had guest speakers, including Daniel Berrigan, Parker Palmer, and Jim Wallis. Students were required to write reflection papers as well as a major paper. They were expected to participate in an additional weekly discussion in groups of six to eight people. Students were also encouraged to visit local monasteries. A teaching assistant to Nouwen for this course may have been Jim Antal.
