Scope and content
File consists of one handwritten page of notes, likely for a lecture. Nouwen begins the notes with reference to St. John and then goes on with notes on the Word, Opposing the Word, Accepting the Word, and Friendship with the Incarnate Word. With reference to opposing the Word, Nouwen writes about how the 'Word is light shining into the darkness' and places the word in reference to light, truth, and life. With reference to accepting the word, Nouwen discusses the themes of faith and prayer. There are Biblical names listed under 'Friendship with the Incarnate Word', and these include The Baptist, John and Andrew, Martha and Mary, Lazarus, John, and Peter. Nouwen final point is as follows: "Point of arrival: not a theory - but a new kind of intimacy with the Lord."
