Scope and content
Sub-series contains correspondence related to the Mathematical Action Group (MAG), a committee formally founded at the 1969 American Mathematical Society (AMS) Winter Meeting. This, and earlier initiatives outside of the society, aimed to give political voice to mathematicians, including expressions of opposition to military research, support for racial and gender equity, and advocating against under-employment . Records include extensive correspondence and discussion of various human rights issues, MAG newsletters, collaborations with aligned groups, such as the Association for Women in Mathematics and Science for the People, nominations, and documentation of events. Individuals represented in the files include Lee Lorch, Ed Dubinsky, and many others.

Note
The Mathematics Action Group appears to be a precursor to the AMS Committee on Human Rights of Mathematicians and includes some correspondence that is also under the latter committee’s name.
