Scope and content

Subseries consists of records documenting Nevitte’s work as a researcher or consultant on several smaller or short-term projects including: the Environics Research Group’s Scenarios for the Future Project; a contract with the Policy Research Secretariat; the 2014 Toronto Election Study; a challenge to the Canadian Fair Elections Act by the Council of Canadians and the Canadian Federation of Students; and some environmental surveys. Additionally, this subseries contains records related to the North American Academic Study (NAAS) or the Cross-National University Study, a major research endeavor which Nevitte undertook with colleagues Seymour Martin Lipset and Stanley Rothman to how compare community members from universities in Canada and the United States viewed issues with policies and practices in higher education institutions. Materials include correspondence, project proposals, contracts, questionnaires, data sets, figures and tables, invoices, and reports. Also included are large format data printouts related to a study on reform and Nevitte’s “Gifts and Gains” chapter in A Question of Ethics.

Digital files consist of a report for the Access to Information Review Task Force entitled Citizens’ Values, Information and Democratic Life (2001) and a draft of the NAAS manuscript.

The digital NAAS manuscript was originally formatted as a Microsoft Office Binder file which contained a collection of documents and spreadsheets that made up the manuscript. To improve the accessibility, the constituent files have been exported individually into a folder titled “Binder of NAAS Manuscript-2”. Each file name beings with a number followed by the original file name as it appeared in the Binder file; the numbers indicate the order in which the files were arranged in the Binder files. Both the original Microsoft Office Binder file (.obd) and the folder with individual files have been preserved and stored in B2021-0011_df018.
