Oskar Morawetz, composer, was born Svetla, Czechoslovakia January 17, 1917 and died in Toronto June 13, 2007. He moved to Canada in 1940 where he studied at the University of Toronto and then taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music, starting in 1946. In 1952, he joined the University of Toronto Faculty of Music in composition, where he taught until his retirement in 1952.
