Biographical history
Carl Morey was a musicologist and teacher (born July 14, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario; died December 3, 2018 in Toronto). He received his Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (ARCT) in 1953, Bachelor of Music (University of Toronto) in 1957, Master of Music (Indiana University) in 1961, and PhD (Indiana University) in 1965. He taught at Wayne State University, Detroit (1962-1963), the University of Windsor (1964-1970, head 1967-1970), and the University of Toronto (1970-1977, associate professor; 1977-2000, full professor). Morey was Dean of the Faculty of Music and chairman of the Graduate Department of Music at the University of Toronto from 1984-1990. In 1991, he was appointed as the Jean A. Chalmers professor of Canadian music and director of the faculty’s Institute of Canadian Music.

Collection predominantly consists of programs that Carl Morey collected from attending performances and for research purposes. Some programs include program notes written by Morey (e.g., Canadian Opera Company programs, among others), ticket stubs, newspaper clippings of reviews of the performances, and/or autographs from the performers.
