Scope and content

Series consists of eight five-year diaries that George Brough maintained from 1946 to 1985. In each diary, one page is dedicated to each day of the year and divided horizontally into five sections for each year.

Brough's brief entries record performances, rehearsals, recording sessions, travel arrangements, meetings with colleagues, lectures, social engagements, and other events. Entries also refer to births, marriages, and deaths of acquaintances and musicians; references to newsworthy events; and significant weather. Some performance entries mention the quality or type of piano, organ, or harpsichord that he played. Brough's entries are predominantly event-based, listing where, what, when, and who, with occasional critical commentary regarding performances.
