This series includes research notes, drafts, and correspondence related to his PhD thesis, "The English Court in the Reign of George I" (University of Cambridge, 1963). The thesis would later be published as a book in 1967, and included in this series is correspondence with Cambridge University Press, along with Beattie and his editor’s annotations for each chapter. To conduct his research, Beattie relied on archival materials from multiple repositories and libraries in England and across Europe. This work is referenced in correspondence between 1957 and 1967 from both Series 1 and 3.
