James Pinhorn studied choral conducting at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music and served as assistant conductor to Doreen Rao for the University of Toronto Concert Choir. Pinhorn then conducted the University Chorus (1992-1994) and the University Women's Chorus (1994-1999).
