Note
Nouwen made these reading notes during a summer-long retreat at the Mount Savior Monastery, a Benedictine community located in Pine City near Elmira, NY. This community is also home to Br. David Steindl-Rast , an author that is frequently cited by Nouwen in his courses at Yale Divinity School. Nouwen used many of the authors he read during this retreat in his courses Discipline and Discipleship, Thomas Merton, and Christian Spirituality.
