Note
The Ministry of Vincent Van Gogh (course code REL 326B) was offered by Nouwen during the spring semester of 1977, on Mondays, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The seminar was limited to 15 students. In it, Nouwen hoped to raise questions about the nature of Christian ministry, using the life and works of van Gogh as a case study. The semester was divided into two sections: during the first term, students focused on the chronology of van Gogh's life while the second section was thematic and centred on the individual projects of seminar participants. Students were required to write two papers. They were also required to read van Gogh's correspondence to his brother Theo and watch the 1956 film "Lust for Life". A guest lecturer may have been Carl A. Newlin. A teaching and research assistant may have been Bailey Green.
