Scope and content
File consists of a bound volume of handwritten reading notes on hesychasm created during Nouwen's seven month retreat at the Abbey of the Genesee (Piffard, NY). This is volume II of II. These notes would form the basis for Nouwen's full-year seminar, Hesychasm, during the 1979-1980 school year at Yale Divinity School. There is a handwritten table of contents in this bound volume. This table of contents was most likely written by John Mogabgab. Some of the works covered in Nouwen's handwritten reading notes are excerpts on hesychasm from Louis Bouyer, Jean Le Clerq and François Vandenbroucke's three volume tome "A History of Christian Spirituality", Sergius Bolshakoff's "Russian Mystics", and G.P. Fedotov's "The Russian Mind". There is also a 9 page chronological summary of the history of orthodox Christianity in Russia.
