The series reflects the development of a discussion surrounding the findings of Dr. Roots’ research data and notes. The material primarily consists of prints and notes but also contains drafts, papers, figures, correspondence, plate and photographic records, negatives, and notebooks.

Dr. Roots arranged the material according to subject (goldfish, optic nerve, earthworm, fixation of lipids, multiple sclerosis, rat myelination, neuron-glia separation, electron microscopy, optic tectum, light and heavy myelin, oligochaete collections), however some files are labelled with the name of her graduate students. Desk drawer files are arranged chronologically at the end of the subseries.
