Name of creator
Richard Davidson was born in Ayr, Ontario and graduated from University College in 1899 and Knox College in 1902, earning a degree of Doctor of Philosophy. His teaching career began at Trinity College with a tutorship and in 1910 he took the chair of Old Testament Language and Literature in Knox, transferring at the time of church union to the United Church College. In 1932, he was appointed Principal at Emmanuel College; he held this Office until retiring in 1943.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of correspondence (including records as Principal of Emmanuel College, 1932–1943; notebooks; notebooks, quotations and background material; sermons; prayers and essays; essays and essay notes; essays and addresses; orders of service, worship; Book of Praise material; Book of Common Order material; and lecture notes. Also included is a series of his son's personal letters (John Craig Davidson).
Immediate source of acquisition
Records in accession 1992.005V were originally part of the United Church of Canada Archives collections. Transferred to Vic Archives in 1992.
Records in accession 1992.036V were transferred from the Emmanuel College Registrar's Office.
