Biographical history
Robert J. King ([1899?]-) served as a private in the 3rd battalion, ‘A’ Company in the Canadian Armed Forces in World War 1. He was captured as prisoner of war on April 24, 1915, and held until 1918 in various German prison camps including those at Giessen and Soltau.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
Acquired by William Matthews from the estate of Edna May King in 2018 and purchased by the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library in 2019.

Scope and content
This collection includes correspondence between Robert J. King and members of his family, as well as between family members, and others from both before and during his captivity. Also included are photographs, material related to King’s war service, medals, and a notebook pertaining to the King family.
