Scope and content
Sub-series contains material related to Davis’ involvement in Science for Peace, an organization founded by a group of UofT faculty concerned with how scientists could raise consciousness related to the risks of war and nuclear weapons and support peace research. File contents include early foundational documents, such as application for letters patent, by-laws, and initial meetings (in some documentation as the Ad-Hoc Committee on Directing Science Towards Peace), correspondence and coordination of events and seminars, research reports, records related to the creation of a Chair of Peace Studies at UofT, newsletters, budgeting, and additional reporting documentation from the executive committee. Included in documentation of Davis’ talk, “A Hippocratic Oath for Mathematicians” about the value in making “the scientific ethic explicit”.
