Administrative history

Founded in 1967, The Gallery at The University of Toronto Scarborough was an on-campus art gallery. Physically located off The Meeting Place, The Gallery had a mandate to exhibit works by contemporary Canadian artists.

Over the years the Gallery highlighted local Scarborough art including, through a recurring series, “Contemporary Art in Scarborough”, participation in Scarborough cultural events (such as Artsweek), and a regular series of exhibitions (including those by students, faculty, and alumni). The Gallery also collected materials for a permanent collection.

The Gallery curators included Terry Nicholson, Brian E. Scott, Clarissa Lewis, Liz Wylie, Nancy Campbell, and Anne MacDonald, among others.

In 2004, The Gallery was reorganized and renamed The Doris McCarthy Gallery.
