Scope and content
File consists of correspondence and other documents related to Nouwen's US Speaking Tour during the fall of 1983, which was titled "Interrupted Journey: Peacemaking in Nicaragua and Peru." Nouwen was speaking about the political situation in Nicaragua. The file includes a financial report of expenses and monies raised, his itinerary, as well as a 9 page, single-spaced draft document written by Nouwen to summarize his activities. This is a very detailed document, including names of those he met, his impressions, his feelings and what he spoke about.
File also includes two copies of a scrapbook documenting the speaking tour, "Interrupted Journey." One copy is the original copy, while the other is a photocopy of the original. These scrapbooks contain publicity documents, copies of newspaper articles, advertisements for Nouwen's talks, memoranda between planning committees for Nouwen's talks, correspondence regarding the talks and Nouwen's tour, itinerary information, and addresses of correspondents and contacts. These scrapbooks were likely created and maintained by the organizing committee of the speaking tour in Washington, D.C. Copies were then given to Nouwen. File includes a summary of the speaking tour, including the schedule with dates and locations of the tour (from September 10, 1983, to November 5, 1983).
