This subseries consists of course material for JPE401 / POL2111 Political Economy of Canada, which explored the relationship between politics and economics in Canada. This course was co-taught by Professor Mel Watkins, who focused on the main themes in the literature on the political economy of Canada with particular reference to issues surrounding free trade, and Clarkson, who applied the political economy framework to explore of the implications of the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement of 1989. Watkins and Clarkson co-taught this course from 1990 to 1992, and again in 1996-1997. Clarkson had previously co-taught the course with Professor David Wolfe in 1986-1987. At that time, the course explored various dimensions of the Political Economy tradition and its relevance for an understanding of the contemporary relationship between politics and economics in Canada, and centered on the theoretical and practical concerns associated with the problem of industrialization in the Canadian context.
