History
The Vancouver Ching Won Musical Society 溫哥華清韻音樂社 is one of the two longest running Cantonese opera houses in Vancouver (the other is Jin Wah Sing Musical Association 振華聲藝術研究社, also founded in 1930s), only interrupted briefly during the China/Japan war and still active today. Ching Won occupied a second-floor complex of rooms on 59 East Pender Street, directly across from the Chinese Cultural Centre and met every Saturday night (often until 2:00 a.m.). On December 18, 2005, Ching Won relocated to 251 East Pender Street, Vancouver.
