History
Nettie Barry Canada Wild (Nettie Wild), born 1952 in New York City, is a prominent Canadian documentary filmmaker. Her mother was a Canadian opera singer and her father a British journalist. Wild was raised in Vancouver and graduated from the University of British Columbia. She started her career in theatre, at Touchstone Theatre (1975-1976) and Headlines Theater (1980-1985). Wild directed the documentary Right To Fight (1982) about affordable housing. She also produced radio documentaries for CBC Radio. Wild’s film A Rustling of Leaves: Inside the Philippine Revolution (1988), about the aftermath of the Marcos regime, began as a CBC radio project. Wild’s subsequent film, Blockade (1993), examines the struggle between the Gitskan and white settlers for control of land in northern British Columbia. Later films include A Place Called Chiapas (1998), Fix: The Story Of An Addicted City (2002), and Koneline: Our Beautiful Land (2016).
