Scope and content
Series consists of records related to Davis’ involvement in the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund, a US-based fund that provides financial support for university students active in initiatives for social change. Founded in 1961 by Hockey Davis, the fund commemorates Marian Davis and her dedication to racial and economic justice. It later also took on the name of Norton Putter, an activist long involved in the fund and civil rights. Members of the Davis Family have continued to participate on the board of the organization, including Chandler Davis. Material in this series documents decision making of board members related to individual recipients, fundraising, and selection, and records documenting the founding of the organization itself.
