Scope and content
This series largely contains photographs and slides that document many aspects of Kidd’s personal life including his childhood, his track and field career, his travels, friendships, and colleagues all over the world and memorable events. There are several hundred slides documenting the 1964 Tokyo Olympics as well as his travels post-graduation from 1965-1966, including his time in India. There are also portraits of Kidd from childhood to recent years as well as images documenting the many awards he has received throughout his life.
Photographs also document many of the professional activities represented in the other series described above including his participation at meetings, conferences, on committees, especially his role in the Olympic Academy of Canada that he led for 10 years from 1983-1993. His role as a university administrator is also documented to a limited degree, mainly focused on Convocations in which he would have participated as Dean of the Faculty of the Physical Education and Health.
Finally, photographs selected by Kidd for his published memoir A Runner’s Journey (University of Toronto Press, 2021) have been filed separately and relate to all other groupings described above.
