The Series includes source material for Coutts’ diary-keeping activities, much of which was organized chronologically and sorted for Coutts by his personal assistants. Often the records have been annotated, indicating subject categories which have been preserved in the arrangement of the series. The series includes extensive correspondence, photographs, reference articles and memorabilia concerning Coutts’ political and personal affairs. Wherever known or identifiable, correspondents have been listed at the file level. A large number of Coutts’ more routine correspondence, concerning travel affairs and agendas was conducted by Coutts’ personal assistant, Anne Drakes, and thus she and Coutts can often be presumed to be among the correspondents even when they have not been listed or identified specifically.
