Norah McClintock (1952-2017) was born 11 March 1952 in Pointe-Claire Quebec, a suburb of Montreal. She attended McGill University, receiving a degree in history, before moving to Toronto. Her first book, Shakespeare and Legs was published by Scholastic Canada in 1987, followed by Sixty-Four Sixty-Five published by McClelland and Stewart in 1989. While both her first books were in the teen romance genre, she soon shifted to young adult crime fiction with The Stepfather Game (1990), Jack’s Back (1992), Mistaken Identity (1995), The Body in the Basement (1997) and The Sins of the Father (1998) – all published by Scholastic Canada. McClintock worked for the Centre for Philanthropy as an editor between 1989 and 2000, before becoming a full-time writer in 2000. She won the award for best juvenile novel from the Crime Writers of Canada’s Arthur Ellis Awards for five times – in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2003. McClintock began writing mystery series, published by Scholastic, beginning in 2000 with the Chloe and Levesque Series (7 books), followed by the Robyn Hunter Series (9 books) and the Mike and Riel Series (5 books). In 2005, McClintock published her first book with Orca Book Publishers, Snitch, followed by Tell (2006), Bang (2007) and Down (2007). She would write 26 novels for Orca including three books for the Riley Donovan series. She would also complete a three book series – the Ryan Dooley series with Red Deer Press. During her career, McClintock wrote over 60 novels, and also delved into historical fiction with Sea of Sorrows: the Typhus Epidemic Diary of Joanna Leary and into graphic novels with I, Witness and Tru Detective.
