Scope and content

The “Saint-Domingue” subseries consists of incoming correspondence to Simcoe and copies of documents sent to him prior to his posting to Saint-Domingue (present day Haiti) in 1797. The series includes reports on the service of the local French planters in the British Legion, general conditions of life on the island, and a local force raised to fight against both formerly enslaved freedom seekers and Revolutionary France.
