History
The Frederick Harris Music Co., Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Royal Conservatory of Music, is the largest and oldest print music publisher in Canada. The company is also the official publisher of the repertoire, studies, and syllabi for The Royal Conservatory of Music.
In 1904, Frederick Harris (1866-1945) established a music publishing business in London, England and set up a North American office in Canada in 1910. This move was the beginning of the publisher’s long association with The Royal Conservatory of Music. The relationship resulted in the company’s emphasis on publications for teaching and learning. Upon Frederick Harris’ death in 1945, The Royal Conservatory of Music became owners of The Frederick Harris Music Co., Limited and any net profits from the publisher were used for scholarship purposes.
