Biographical history

Scholar and activist Ian Angus has been involved in following Canadian socialism and communism since the late 1970s. Author of Canadian Bolsheviks: The Early Years of the Communist Party of Canada (originally published in 1981), Angus has followed Canadian communism and other solidarity movements for years. Having an established background in ecosocialism, Angus is the editor of the journal Climate & Capitalism as well as a founding member of the Global Ecosocialist Network. Other more recent publications include Facing the Anthropocene: Fossil Capitalism and the Crisis of the Earth System (2016) and A Redder Shade of Green: Intersections of Science and Socialism (2017).

Comprised of many newspapers, magazines, bulletins, photos, and other assorted materials relating to various socialist and communist meetings and movements throughout Canada, the Ian Angus Fonds make up a large collection that detail a lengthy history of activism and span a variety of different historical movements. Notably a large collection of buttons from various protests is contained within the collection spanning Palestinian independence to abortion access to various LGBTQ* movements. Additionally, many meeting minutes, correspondences and collateral from Canadian groups like Socialist Challenge, The Revolutionary Marxist Group, etc. are contained within.
