Scope and content

File contents include drafts of articles and essays, correspondence, including referees’ comments, requests for work, author agreements, reviews, and other records relating to publishing books and articles. The majority of records reflect Davis’ academic publishing in the field of mathematics and document some of Davis’ key professional collaborations with individuals such as Rajendra Bhatia. Mathematic topics include linear operators, functional analysis, and the study of eigenvalue perturbation and the perturbation of invariant subspaces. A selection of files include presentations that were later turned into published pieces, but have been kept within this sub-series to maintain Davis’ original organization. The sub-series also includes Davis’ writing on sociobiology, social responsibility within science broadly, political essays, and reflections.
