        History

Cooper & Beatty was founded as a typographic service in 1921 by E.T. Cooper and L.W. Beatty. In the 1930's it began to specialize in advertising agency typography. When the founders Cooper and Beatty retired in the 1950's, W.E. Trevett, a typographic designer, became president. He received international awards for typographic design and art direction. The firm, with clients in both Canada and the United States, won international awards and recognition for its typographic designs. In Canada it worked for many advertising agencies and designed the typography for much of the consumer advertising industry. Four other companies comprised Cooper & Beatty: Headliners of Canada, Linotype Composing Company, London Typesetting Company, and Swift-o-type Limited. Some records for these companies are included. In 1968 Cooper & Beatty merged with the McLean Management Group of Montreal.
