Sub-series consists of records related to Dr. Bolton’s activities within the Department of Astronomy including his involvement in the Chant Committee (1978 – 1979), Tri-University 3.5-m Telescope Committee (1988 – 1989), Graduate Program Degree Committee (1992 – 1993), Executive Committee (1991 – 1994), and several search committees. The records also document various aspects and activities of the Department of Astronomy including departmental planning; curriculum and course development; the Astronomy Library; acquisitions of telescopes and other equipment; responses to the Silcox Report, and various committees including the Computer Committee and Reinhardt Travel Committee. Additionally, two files document discussions about the future of the Department of Astronomy and the DDO and a proposal for a new 2-m Telescope for University of Toronto’s observatory in Chile.
Records include correspondence and memoranda; Bolton’s annual activity reports; meeting minutes; Graduate Astronomy Students Association (GASA) course evaluations; course outlines; new course proposals; course, committee, and TA assignments; Astronomy Library guides and annual reports; Ph.D. examination committee reports; curriculum review reports for the Department of Astronomy and the Faculty of Arts and Science; search committee reports; and CITA newsletters.
