The records in this series document Professor Sugunasiri’s employment, beginning with his formative years with the Government of Ceylon [Sri Lanka] and moving on to the Humber College of Applied Art and Technology, where he taught English as a Second Language from 1968-1971; then to the Toronto Board of Education from 1980, and a number of ancillary endeavours, including a series of seminars he gave at the University of Havana in 2010.
In 1971 Professor Sugunasiri took his family back to Sri Lanka for two years, where he lectured in Buddhist psychology, linguistics and second language psychology in the Faculty of Education at the Vidyodaya campus of the University of Ceylon, now known as the University of Sri Jayewardenpura. He was also involved in studies on the teaching of English in Sri Lankan schools. Much of the material in these files is in Sinhala.
Included in this series is correspondence, certificates, memoranda, notes, minutes of meetings, drafts of projects, ideas, and policy statements, lecture notes and course materials.
