        History

The John Templeton Program on Science and Religion was started in 1994 to encourage academic courses in the area of science and religion in colleges and universities throughout the world. The program in Toronto was initiated by Sir John Templeton (the founder) and Dr. Robert L. Herrmann. Dr. Thaddeus Trenn, working in an office at Victoria University, served as Director for the Canadian Region and for the Toronto Advanced Summer Workshop. From 1996 to 1999, an annual summer workshop was held at Victoria University. At the end of the fifth year the entire program was put under the control of the Center for Theology and Natural Sciences at Berkeley, California, and the Toronto workshop was discontinued.
