File consists of a bound volume of typed lecture notes, handwritten notes and handouts created and used by Nouwen for the course Christian Spirituality. The lectures appear to have been typed by Nouwen and are annotated by him. The lectures cover such topics as Eastern Orthodoxy, eastern and western monasticism, discipline, fragmentation and loneliness, as well as such authors as Thomas Merton, Gary Cash, Joe Freeman, Walter Parr and Mary Hobgood. The materials of the file relate primarily to Nouwen's first course at Yale Divinity School, however, there is also evidence that materials of this file relate to a course on Christian Spirituality taught between 1968 and 1970 in the Netherlands. There are 17 handwritten pages of notes in Dutch, and many of the lecture notes are typed on Dutch letterhead.
