Note
Ministry and Spirituality was a lecture course offered by Nouwen during the fall semester of 1975. The class was held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. Ministry and Spirituality focused on the relationship between the practices of the ministry and the lifestyle of the minister, using the themes of solitude, intimacy, and prayer. Nouwen also uses the figure of the clown in this course. These lectures included guest speakers and specific case studies. The course required students to write several reflection papers on their experiences and reading as well as write a final paper. Students were expected to participate in additional weekly meetings of small discussion groups of eight or less. Students were also given the opportunity to visit local ministries and religious communities.
