Materials donated by Elizabeth Mason (2015), a descendent of Thomas G. Mason, one of the co-founders of Mason & Risch.

Scope and content

File consists of correspondence and research materials relating to Mason & Risch, a Canadian piano manufacturing firm established in 1871. Materials include correspondence from the German musicologist Dr. Günther Kraft (1961-1968) and copies of two documents:

  1. Letter from Franz Liszt to Mason and Risch endorsing their piano and referencing a portrait of himself painted by Baron Joukovsky, which he gifted to the company. The letter is dated November 10, 1882.
  2. "Eulogium" by Mr. T. C. Jeffers, Mus. Bac., inspired by the portrait, dated August 29, 1883.
    File also includes a copy of Dr. Kraft's exhibition catalog "Liszt und Weimar : eine Dokumentar-Ausstellung anlässlich der Franz-Liszt-Ehrung 1961."
